The company was incorporated on April 18, 1794, under the laws of Pennsylvania.  It was licensed on November 5, 1794, and is the second oldest stock insurance company in the United States.  This company is fully licensed in D.C. and all US states.

The company enjoys a rating of "A++" (Superior) by A.M. Best. This is the highest possible financial rating given by A.M. Best. Only a handful of companies worldwide have the financial strength to receive this A++ rating.
